Less House More Moola Podcast (00:41)
Hey there, welcome to Less House, More Moola Podcast. Laura here, episode 101, kind of picking up where I left off last week in that we are still away from the studio. So for those of you who happen to catch Less House, More Moola Podcast on YouTube, you can see two camera angles of the, I wouldn't say we're quite.
Camping anymore, but something akin to that in this Cabin that was on the land that we purchased in South Central, Colorado Hoping to develop some tiny house parking spaces here to bring community together And so we are here working on the existing structure Making it more safe and livable and comfortable
And so we've been here for a week and a half. So we're going to be wrapping it up this week and headed back to northern New Mexico this weekend. So lots of things you can see in the camera angle and all of them looking pretty messy, not Instagram worthy right now for sure. And so you can see tools all over the place and that intermixed with boxes of food and
you know, things scattered about, but we've gotten a lot done since we've been here. When we first got here, we took down the ceiling and did a lot of re-insulating and cleaning. And then from there, we did some framing and created a small bedroom space. And we've also done a lot of electrical. So in this camera angle behind me, you can see the electrical wires.
that we have put in that are just waiting for their future beautiful pendants that I'm kind of scoping out. so lots of work here in this cabin and getting it ready for the next phase of work. We also put in new windows and that has been great to bring in the natural light, especially from the South in Colorado.
Bringing in the solar gain is really important and having also some cross ventilation opportunities as we're planning on building an adobe greenhouse behind me. And so that's going to bring warmth in to the house. And so we need to be able to push the cold air out throughout the house. So lots of good work that we've been doing intermixed with some fantastic walks.
to beautiful places looking at just so many great species, animals, trees, seeing the spring coming to life here. And so it's been a really beautiful adventure.
It makes me think about the really key piece that I appreciate so much about having my own business and all of that being tied to tiny living. I wasn't able to launch my own business until I reduced my housing cost. so now having my own business allows me to do this thing called surge scheduling.
which is where you pack a lot of work into a certain period of time and then you free up a certain period of time to focus on another thing that's really important to you. And so when I'm up here, I don't have client meetings on the schedule. And so it really allows me to shift gears in my mind and take a break from that work and focus on this work and what we're doing here. And that physical work is so tangible and it feels
just so fulfilling in these uncertain times to be able to be creating something that is resilient and sustainable and hopefully going to take care of us in the future. So I love that autonomy, that time choice that I've been able to create through tiny living that allows me to switch gears, turn off the financial planner.
brain at least 90 % for the moment and come up here and focus more on the physical tasks of deconstructing and reconstructing this space. So make sure that you come back next week. I am not going to drop a teaser here because I'm a little knock on wood, always worried that something will fall through. But if it doesn't, because it's scheduled.
⁓ We should have a really exciting interview for you next week with someone that you probably have heard from before So make sure that you come back next week to hear something really exciting Coming on Less House More Moola podcast. Thanks for joining me. Thanks for being along on this journey Again, if you don't know what I'm talking about on the project more details on what we're
working on up here in South Central Colorado is on episode 88. So you can go back and listen to Eric and I talk about this project and all that we're accomplishing or hoping to accomplish here with this beautiful land that we purchased last year. So thanks for joining me and talk to you next week.
